Nokia Booklet 3G (RX-75) Drivers

Hi guys, I want to restore my Booklet, but I didn’t have the drivers. Do you know where I can find all of them?

Try here: https://sizeof.cat/post/nokia-booklet-3g/

Would seriously consider replacing HDD with SSD if you haven't already: http://tech.slupik.com/2010/05/nokia...d-upgrade.html

Re: Nokia Booklet 3G (RX-75) Drivers

I have just installed Q4OS distro on my Booklet and I'm finally happy. Up to date linux and working. Installed smtube and then downloaded updated smplayer version and installed it with sudo dpkg -i from download folder and installed up to date youtube-dl and videos play perfectly with audio and can watch youtube with smplayer without problems.

Firefox works well too. I use blank page for startup and don't use many tabs and have ublock extension added and set firefox not to remember history. Youtube videos run also with firefox.

Also libreoffice writer works well 'cause this distro is less ram hungry.

Brightness and sound control keys works as they should.

Had some problems connecting to hotspot (the network didn't show straight) but it works now too. Had to use "connect to new network" option.

Till now I'm using ubuntu 16.04 on my Nokia Booklet 3G with the linux graphic drivers from intel. After your post I think, it's time to try something new .

Questions:
  • Are you using TDE, not KDE Plasma?
  • How many ram is used by the system after booting?
  • What updated smplayer deb archive file are you using?
  • You have no problem with sound and video, if you run youtube videos in Firefox?
  • Can you connect to the internet with 3G?

Thank's for your time...

Re: Nokia Booklet 3G (RX-75) Drivers

Trinity desktop. When you open like firefox or writer, it hesitates a bit and makes you wonder did you click to open but when it starts to open it opens quite fast.

Haven't checked the ram, may check today

Latest smplayer deb from their website. Watched 720p.

Yes, no problems, yet I think better not to run in full hd. Maybe full works too but tried only in a place with a bad network.

Not sure about 3G cause haven't tried. But it's debian so should not be a problem to install any missing packages.

Re: Nokia Booklet 3G (RX-75) Drivers

With desktop loaded the memory use is 191M.
Firefox opened about 400M.
Libreoffice writer opened about 300M.

WARNING: I updated the system and atleast firefox won't play videos. Can't handle the video. Sound is ok.

I played a bit changing the desktop one day. Not sure if something is messed up. I will install the system again and see if it works then.

I have today installed new EliveOs retro edition to my Panasonic Toughbook cf-u1 which has gma500 and I am able to watch video streams and youtube etc out of the box. I will install this to my booklet and inform but I believe it will work on that too. I just love the EliveOs, the spirit the man behind it has and the community. Have waited for this new version and so happy!!!

It seems that Booklet 3G doesn't boot directly from SD-card, has somebody hint what have to install in to SSD to get Booklet to continue boot from SD-card.

Versions between 1.0-1.1 should not work at all with Booklet, there is separate thread about that:
https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1575313

EDIT: if it jumps to end of the thread, read starting from first post.

Re: Nokia Booklet 3G (RX-75) Drivers

Ssd did not solved my problem. When trying to install Windows, Ubuntu or meego to the disk it frezees. Live usb Ubuntu can see the disk on gparted but disapears when reading. Strange thing

Re: Nokia Booklet 3G (RX-75) Drivers

Is your SSD over 137 GB? I found my self that Debian 5 and Ubuntu 10 is last that installer support big disks with Booklet 3G. Newer linuxes freezes (lost disk), because I think there is bug in installer or partition or formatting code. I managed install Ubuntu 12 and Ubuntu 14 as over install (I did not format/erasa any partition when I install) over Ubuntu 10.

Edit: bad english

120Gb and it happens with windows, linus, meego, etc... I can format the disk but when trying to write something it freezes. Will try a cloned ssd later tonight

Did you test FreeDOS 1.3? It does not have any disk routine bugs, but default settings for upper-memory are not good for Booklet 3G, so choose safe mode when start first time.

Does it really freeze when you start FreeDOS fdisk? If not, there might be one problem to solve. If yes, then it is for parts. What keyboard layout it has?

Re: Nokia Booklet 3G (RX-75) Drivers

Did not tried FreeDOS fdisk. What i tried was several os's like ubuntu, pup os, raspberry desktop 32 bit. On all of them, and with any hdd inserted, it works perfectly fine until i try to write something to the disk. However i can format them with no problem. Keyboard is qwerty

I think you might have TRIM problem, what makes that you cannot install Windows and it seems another OSs you have tested are all linux-based. What I recomend is clear all partitions with FreeDOS fdisk and then make small partition with it and then try format it with FreeDOS format c: command and then try write something to it ( easiest way to install FreeDOS in it :) )

Will try that. I got an ssd with windows 7 image and TRIM disabled but no luck. Will try both FreeDos and a live boot from windows to update BIOS

Re: Nokia Booklet 3G (RX-75) Drivers

Hi the issue with ssd Disks is about a problem with the netbook itself.
the booklet cant manage trim

Best way is to make a empy partition with gparted without fileystem.
after that open a Terminal and make a ext4 partiton without trim.
e.g.sudo mkfs.ext4 -E nodiscard /dev/sdx

the x stands for your device.

And if gparted gives error when starting or when deleting current partitions (I had those problems), then try first delete partitions with FreeDOS fdisk (it doesn't care much about current state of disk, but you have to start deleting from the last partition) and then continue with above good hint.

Managed to update my BIOS from 1.2 to 2.0 without windows installed. Used the Dos mode on windows installation and was able to do it in DOS mode. It is now on 2.0 but still can't install nothing to the internal disk. Will try a live windows boot. Meego does not boot on Booklet but boots on Asus eee Pc 4g :)

How your BIOS version show up in BIOS settings is it 2.0 or 2.00-T01?
Try this first (later I give more instruction for test that hardware is fully working):
Boot with Free-DOS 1.3 Live (you can also use USB CD-drive and CD-ROM for boot, remember set it in BIOS settings boot order)
- After boot choose Use Live enviroment
- Write to command line:
fdisk (starts partitioner)
y (large support)
4 (display partition information)
- What total disk space you see? What partition you see?
- Push y-key to see logical drives if there is
- What reading in logical drive system (if there is)?

(you can also boot with USB-floppy drive with Win98SE boot floppy and there should be fdisk to use same way, except show Linux partitions as non-DOS and does not support over 137GB SSD fully)

MeeGo 1.2 and runs smooth. Could not open internet browser (don't know why). It is the chromium version because could not find another

Try in BIOS settings:
Advanced-tab
Legacy USB support: Enabled

It was needed when booting USB-floppy or USB-CD-ROM (actually I used USB Blu-Ray-drive), but I am not sure if USB-stick same way...maybe it can be also opposite. Funny thing I never tried to boot booklet with USB-stick..it so much easier burn CD or DVD.
