Re: Opening old wounds.. :( Nokia "Lauta"

I *think* it may be one of experimental boards before final N950 design which were used to study stability and convenience of the folding mechanism.

There have been several approaches, with flat...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

There is great deal of difference between programmers' qualities and operating system design. You can have very good programmers to implement poorly designed high-level abstractions. Most of issues...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Getting to retail in China is important for them to ensure batch sizes being in at least tens thousands mark (even 50 phones per each of 2000 D.Phone shops is already 100K phones). This is important...

Re: The Epic N9 PR1.3 Discussion Thread!

I just verified that certificate-based access in MfE works wonderfully.

Re: The Epic N9 PR1.3 Discussion Thread!

There is probably decoder change, moving from one vendor to another. It was planned earlier.

Re: The Epic N9 PR1.3 Discussion Thread!

Mail for Exchange now should include support for certificates issued by self-managed CAs.

Re: Carl Zeiss lenses

Yes, it is licensing and (quite strict) certification. You'd need to get through fairly good amount of algorithmic and hardware design work on mobile to pass the certification test though, it is far...

Re: [Announce] Harmattan 1.2 beta now available as OCF for Nokia N950

I'd guess these are separate QML apps which will be available in N9 release. Similar to what was with N950 first betas when games were missing.

Re: [Announce] Harmattan 1.2 beta now available as OCF for Nokia N950

There was at least an effort to maintain common QT API for face recognition (or, as I tried to push, generic feature recognition and association API with face/contacts being concrete example). I hope...

Re: [Announce] Harmattan 1.2 beta now available as OCF for Nokia N950

No, it does not. Grooveshark is using sound playing API that is not available in Nokia Browser. It also doesn't work in Chromium and Firefox under Linux. When I talked with some of Grooveshark...

Re: [Announce] Harmattan 1.2 beta now available as OCF for Nokia N950

PR1.2 has one of few last features I was working on before departing: face recognition. Nice work of my teammates in Gallery: if you activate face recognition, there will be small bubbles with...

Re: Meltemi - Lightweight Linux based os from Nokia

Leak after the Feb11's hole opened was enormous. Of course, it didn't dry out Nokia's Linux talent completely but made it so scarce that it is now less different from others in this respect. Intel...

Re: N9 Successor

Perhaps you never worked in large corporations. The reality there is far from being "we are the one single entity", there are different flows, clouds, islands, even greater hunks of earth out there....

Re: N9 Successor

Good luck finding "new Maemo/MeeGo" in Nokia.

Jussi Mäkinen (luovanto) is clearly stating in his twitter that his boss is head of mobile phones marketing, i.e. he is working on 'next billion'...

Re: N9/N950 Email/Mail for Exchange - Get help & give feedback here

Accounts system on N9 is tied to your simcard. You can have up to 7 sim cards in the same device to share same accounts -- as long as you have enabled device lock code. If device lock code was...

Re: N9/N950 Contacts/IM - Get help & give feedback here

When I was involved, we tried to run this through UX people and number of complicated corner cases that they found during the session made clear that there are more issues than solutions for general...

Re: Nokia N950 Beta2 firmware is out

Yes, you need to get images. Flashers, at least, 3.11.5 and onwards currently work for both device types.

Re: N9 SHOWSTOPPER: Mail for Exchange with Afaria Mobile device security

This is definitely not a showstopper for N9. It is a showstopper for your use of N9.

Could you please change the topic to be less provocative and more to the point? With sensational titles you...

Re: RAW on the N9?

The difference in results on N900 tells you a lot on what amount of work was put into optimizing image quality there.

Re: RAW on the N9?

There are changes needed in low levels (drivers and stuff) and they were planned for PR1.2. Hopefully, that still holds, albeit I don't have up to date information about it.

Re: Nokia N9, N900, Iphone3GS Music player review and shootout

Regarding N9 music player and where to put music -- any location on EMMC will work if it is not a 'hidden' folder (i.e. does not start with dot).

For example, I put music into Music folder and not...

Re: Meltemi - Lightweight Linux based os from Nokia

Re: Meltemi - Lightweight Linux based os from Nokia

As far as I can see, Nokia's strategy for past decade was to rely more and more on external suppliers, be it hardware or software non-core business. This is classical learning from MBA courses...
