Yeah, I have no doubt that the "connection rejected" issue you are having is due to the fact you are using Windows XP Home. RDP hosting was specifically left out of the Home addition.

Do you have another windows computer (or any other OS that supports RDP I guess) on your network that you can use to try and RDP into the computer? This would allow you to find out if it is a setup...

You change the listening port on the computer that is hosting the RDP session. You can find instructions here. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306759)
Then you simply add the new port to the end...
