The modifier keys are not sticky in emacs but I'm sure you realized this.

Do your modified keys work outside of emacs?

S+Fn q-p = F1-F10, x = {}, c = [, v = ], b = <, n = >, up = ^, down = %, and a few others
I've mapped S+Fn . (that's period) to 'Menu' - one less key to get M-x...

it's a one-click call. I'm sure you could do the same thing to launch...

not my experience - I've got some heavy use items (metal to plastic) with epoxy fixes applied that hold up well > 3 years.

I think that if you glue the casing to the usb port, it would make it impossible to take the device apart in the future. You would be gluing the plastic casing to the mainboard.
