I'm afraid I found a workaround. I've rarely been this horrified by the behavior of a piece of software, and I wish I could say this was the first time for Maemo.

Google Calendar -> Settings dropdown in the upper right -> Calendar Settings -> Calendars -> Find calendar in question -> Notifications
Uncheck the boxes, remove the default reminders. Should do...

That's *way* less helpful than when it used to use flite, which I made a script that used espeak instead.
With espeak/flite, it would actually say "turn right at exit 103 to Sand Hill Road", or...

My problem is more awesomer than everybody else's! :)
The screen tap noise doesn't turn off *even in silent mode*.
Setting it off in the profile doesn't help either. Rebooting doesn't help:...
