Re: Droid X, what does everythink about it?
It's definitely impressive, as far as Android devices without hardware keyboards go. After some hesitation, I pulled the trigger today... and will hopefully be in possession of it by next week. Then...

Re: [HOWTO] Freeing up rootfs space
Glad I could be of assistance :)
Sure, there are a few things that can be manually optified, but if you aren't having problems it's not worth the trouble.
I'm sitting at 60MB free on my...

Re: [HOWTO] Freeing up rootfs space
That's not too bad.
Some of the packages exist only to pull in other packages, and don't install any files (such as python-all), so there is nothing to optify. In some cases, it's just not...

Re: Power saving on/off ?
As root:
iwconfig wlan0 power off
will disable power management temporarily. You will need the wireless-tools package (from Nokia Apps repo) installed to get this command (IIRC, it isn't by...

Re: Will N900 be ignored by Nokia?
So you're fine with receiving no more OS bug fixes/enhancements, except for major issues? Let's see if you still agree with that statement once you're affected by something that won't be fixed...

Re: ATT internet
The APN wap.cingular is correct - in case I wasn't clear in my last post. That's what I'm using right now. The other option would isp.cingular with a username of ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (although from...

Re: update failed to fetch archives please help
It sounds like it would be best for you to use App. manager to perform the upgrade. If you insist on using command line tools, you must do the following (specifically in this order):
apt-get...

Re: [HOWTO] Freeing up rootfs space
Correct. If your python is optified, /opt/pymaemo would exist. I would advise NOT following part 2 of the first post, but rather doing:
sudo gainroot
apt-get install pymaemo-optify
apt-get clean

Re: [HOWTO] Freeing up rootfs space
Yes. It'll move the following to /opt/pymaemo/*:
/usr/lib/python2.5
/usr/share/pyshared
/usr/lib/pyshared
/usr/share/python-support
/usr/lib/python-support
It will then use mount to bind the...

Re: [HOWTO] Freeing up rootfs space
Not necessary - just use apt-get to install the pymaemo-optify package, from extras. Removing and installing is doing just that, but the long way.
If you had python installed prior to...

Re: [HOWTO] Freeing up rootfs space
I put together a quick script last night... It'll check any packages that aren't dependencies of mp-fremantle-*-pr (which should exclude most of the pre-installed packages) to see if they place any...

I didn't check immediately prior to the update, but two days ago I had about 62MB free and post-update I have about 60MB free.
