Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

I know about the issue & I'm working on a fix. Should be hopefully finally fixed in the next few days. :)

BTW, I've added a aarch64 build of modRana to OpenRepos a while ago, so Sailfish X users...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

That archive is for the latest modRana code, that no longer contains the GTK2 GUI & Python 2 support needed to run on the N900. This is a link to archive of the n900-branch that contains the latest...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

So in the end it was a week or two, but the fixed modRana release is here - now syncing to both Open Repos and Jolla Store. :)

Nothing that interesting just yet (other than modRana actually...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

So just a heads up for those already on Sailfish OS 3.3 EA - modRana is currently not starting on SFOS 3.3 due to Python 3 being upgraded (to 3.8.1) and modRana using some functionality that has been...

Re: Longtime users: What device(s) are you using today?

So for me the smartphone story started with the Neo FreeRunner I got from school to work on my bachelors thesis & this is where modRana first ran on a mobile devices, forked from a FreeRunner...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

Online routing is actually at the moment broken in all versions - modRana used an old Google routing API that has been recently deprecated, so online routing stopped working. This is definitely one...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

Interesting! It is nice to see some more recent attempts at Python 3 support on Maemo 5. There are unfortunately still some issues that are really preventing from this being used by modRana:
- an...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

Going forward only the Qt 5 based GUI makes sense, so as long as Maemo Leste can provide:

support for running Qt 5 QML apps based on Qt Quick Controls 2
reasonably new Python 3 (say 3.6+)
...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

Yeah, I planned to do an announcement here, likely as part of next version release notes, but might as well do it now. :)

BTW, I really wonder how many users are actually affected - the version in...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

I'm afraid that the only fully offline mode supported by modRana on the N900 was the rudimentary offline routing based on Monav. Tile display was always working with map tiles downloaded from the...

Re: Flatpak on Sailfish OS

I can get some background about what I have found so far about the on-disk space using of Flatpaks to complement the data about RAM usage.

For that it's important to note, how Flatpaks & runtimes...

Re: Ordered a Xperia 10 - Mistake?

I can kinda understand that as well & that this is not fully under their control due to Google & manufacturer policies. Still I'm afraid this can still make quite a few users rightfully angry due to...

Re: Ordered a Xperia 10 - Mistake?

I will likely be in the same boat soon - even though I think it is a mistake that Jolla does not want to update the Xperia X baseport (even due to all the lost mindshare), I will likely get a Xperia...

Re: Ordered a Xperia 10 - Mistake?

This is not fully correct - while this mainly gets lost in the discusions about updating the Android emulation layer, another thing that is neglected (and a per-requisite for updating the emulation...

Re: Sailfish OS 3.2 for early Adaptor

I don't think you can really do that - you simply need a native browser to be always available, even for stuff like captive portals on some WiFi hotspots. The Android emulation layer is (optionally)...

Re: Anticipation - Official Sailfish support for Xperia XA3 (announced MWC 2019)

This is pretty much how I see it as well. Sailfish OS just feels to me much more robust & "proper" as an OS. Not to mention being much more in control & being able to introspect what the system is...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

We have dreamed of this fox quite a while already - 4.4 kernel & binaries have been available for the Xperia X for quite a while already & that should be the minimum needed to spin up a Android 8 API...

Have been traveling quite a bit this summer, but hopefully...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

Do you mean some piece of Python code you could reuse from modRana to return you turn by turn navigation instructions, which you could then show in your app ?

I'm afraid the routing situation @...

Re: Sailfish 3.0.3 Hossa

Wasn't it originally the other way around ? Eq. Android apps on XA2 could initially only use WiFi and not cellular data.

On the other hand these small minor updates keep coming in a rather quick...

I think (but anyone is free to correct me) that nothing really changed from before in this regard other than having more kernel-driver-blob bundles to choose from.

Before on Jolla sold devices...

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

When do they usually release the new build targets/new SDK ? I would assume some time before general availability of the SFOS update ?

Still, I don't really see why all this is not done in sync -...
