CRT yes, but i think it is to avoid pixel damage as you already said.
Other than that, there hasn't been mods for such a thing and i'm no expert to offer a solution for this :(

you cant and you shouldn't, the clock keeps on moving so that it may not damage the screen, a similar concept to a screensaver in the old days.

How to connect VNC and ssh through USB
A noob here.
How can i VNC as well as SSH my N9 using a USB port ?
The phone and pc are not on the same network (WiFi)
and if vnc thorugh 3G is an option will it not be very very slow ?

Well it works,
Simply replace
$FONT_FAMILY_LIGHT
with
$"Your Font Name"
remember the inverted quotes are important and no typos !
