Re: SailfishOS bugs and glitches

Totally agree. I knew it was going to be a bit rough round the edges, but I am actually feeling kinda dissappointed. In it's current state it canot replace my existing phone :(

Also, I cannot find...

Re: Jolla tracking numbers

I concur with your guess.

That's the first time I've heard of that flightradar site. It's pretty cool.

I can just imagine this in a film with the evil genius selecting a flight and then...

Re: Jolla tracking numbers

I do believe that I have shifted from obsessively refreshing the Jolla site to refreshing the Fedex site.

It's not as though I can make the plane (that I assume it is on) go any faster.

Re: Jolla tracking numbers

I didn't realise you could do that! Great.

Looks like mine is still in Finland :(

The worrying thing is that they may have damaged it whilst trying to get it in the van ...

Re: Will you buy the Jolla phone?

II don't think of "dead end" in terms of a single device, more the manufacturer supported ecosystem around the device. I went from the N900 to an S3 as there clearly wasn't going to be anything to...

Re: What's your jolla queue preorder number?

They haven't sent them yet.

From the receipt :-
"We will notify you of your actual priority number at the end of the pre-order period."

Re: Will you buy the Jolla phone?

Just placed my pre-order :)
I don't recall being this excited about a new device since the N900.

Re: SIO2 Interactive spamming votes to get his/her applications to Extras

The thing is that in the world of communications, computers and the Internet, exploiting loopholes is a very serious thing. If he had found a way to bypass the proper procedures to force his product...

Re: SIO2 Interactive spamming votes to get his/her applications to Extras

Exactly, there were two different groups of users involved there...

Many of the people who first downloaded the pack were simply using well established and normal methods to access a repository....

Re: SIO2 Interactive spamming votes to get his/her applications to Extras

What do you think the result would have been if he had circumvented Nokia's system security to insert his product into the Ovi store, bypassing whatever QA/contractual processes exist?

Re: SIO2 Interactive spamming votes to get his/her applications to Extras

That'sa completely separate issue and IIRC the QA requirements for non-free are lower. (something like does it run? is it optified? does int uninstall cleanly?)

IMO, the maemo-extras QA process...

Re: SIO2 Interactive spamming votes to get his/her applications to Extras

I have no real objection to commercial software being in maemo-extras, in my mind non-free is non-free. At one level, this is similar to the doom and quake ports.

However the registering of...

Re: Three Network UK Sim Rejected Error

SHould do. This is a known issue with the original firmware.

Connect to a wireless network and upgrade or use the flasher.

Re: Please keep "Off Topic"-section off topic!

Yes it started as a joke but a joke highlighting a particular problem - I hate to be stereotypical but it...

Re: Please keep "Off Topic"-section off topic!

Exactly. A forum is primarily a discussion or meeting area. The discussion may be technical or social and - like most conversations between people - is often both. Online fora are different from...

Re: Ovi Maps goes free for premium content (no N900 *yet*)

I'm always amazed that the huge number of firsts and community oriented uniquenesses (is that a word?) of the Nokia/Maemo ecosystem are just taken completely for granted or ignored the moment...

Re: IDC thinks Android will eat Maemo, nom nom

What is the combined market-share of the Android investors compared to the market-share of Nokia?

The number of companies thing is a relatively useless indicator. If it were a real factor, the...

Re: Cringely's take on Maemo (and the smart phone OS landscape)

Re: The Mega Thread Of Almost-Certified N900 Apps that Work (or not) !!

Re: The Mega Thread Of Almost-Certified N900 Apps that Work (or not) !!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what the QA Queue (http://maemo.org/packages/repository/qa/fremantle_extras-testing/) is for?

That said, it has just taken me an age to find it, even though...
