Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch

So, there is no dual or multi-boot here, you must go with one of the three options, Lineage, Ubuntu or SailF?

Long time since I was on these boards :-) Still have my n900 as a treasured keepsake.

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

Looks a sensible answer to the most frequent criticisms - interesting. I would wish for LIneage OS no gapps, dual boot debian, yummy.

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2017?

No, not dead, yet....

But in it's twilight years, most certainly. It's Darwinian. Sadly.

Re: [Announce] CSSU devel, it may eat your brain

I haven't seen thumb builds for a while, so I think not.

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

Ah, quite right - not the actual downgrade but the one reported here. Less haste etc.

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

In absolute terms, you are right - but in the end, what matters is how many hours of average intensity use is given by the installed battery. It needs to be 8 hours minimum IMO, ideally 12. Or what?...

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

This is very very tempting. Looks nice, has keyboard, will make calls. But will it do in Linux everything it can on Android? And how will the binary blobs be managed with respect to kernel upgrades?

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

There was some IRC chatter (https://irclog.whitequark.org/neo900/2017-05-14) mid-month, so ....

Re: The End of Unity8, Convergence and Phone :-(

Me too. Indeed, there likely are many who came to appreciate the Unity desktop as different yet very productive. Critics - and they are entitled to be so - tend to have the loudest voices.

Re: Ubuntu updates on hold until switch to snap is ready.

For what it is worth: insider chat says that Canonical is unlikely to devote considerable resources to UT. Ubuntu personal (with Unity 8, Mir and snaps) will be the thing, and where that is...

Re: N900 viable daily phone or is nostalgia clouding my memory?

I run CM13, effectively LineageOS, with noGAPPs. Look it is Android in it's manner, but yes, you are free of leaking info left right and centre. That is a huge plus, if you want modern browsing and...

Re: [Announce] modRana: a flexible GPS navigation system

Perhaps link a deb here for n900 users and ask for testing?

Or declare the n900 development over, which is understandable and your absolute right. Otherwise, the device sits in limbo....

My 2c...

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2017?

Yes, quite right. The dev has this (http://bbs.ilichee.cc/t/tutorial-setup-swap-file-for-zero/56) to say about it too.

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2017?

An error, surely? The original Pi came with 256, or was it 512 MB, so 64MB makes no sense given the peripherals shown.

Re: Ubuntu updates on hold until switch to snap is ready.

I think it varies among individuals. On my mx4 under xmir I struggled with Libreoffice, firefox etc and yes, fiddling the DPI may well have helped (as would a fine-stylus). I guess, as one ages,...

Re: Ubuntu updates on hold until switch to snap is ready.

Respectfully, Canonical is in no way trying to make UT incompatible with Ubuntu desktop or on any other form-factor. They are in fact converging the distro, same software, different platforms. AFAIK,...

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

Ha ha! In some academic conventions it would be italicised, and indeed there is a point to doing that....

Often, confusion is the result of "too clever by half" names.

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

For me, the question is whether the two OSs will be equals with respect to accessing the h-w devices: gps, camera etc.

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2017?

Yikes from 60 k$ to 91 k$ is a few hours!!!

Wonder what that 8000mAh battery will give in hours of use? It's removable - yay!

Re: Gpd win

I guess that is not entirely their call - chipmakers likely decide that in relation to how much "muscle" the manufacturer bring to the table.

Re: [Announce] GPXSee viewer for gps track files

This is looking good and working well, thank you.

If I may, I think the more useful function would be to be able to set the folder holding the .gpx files, so that the file selector opens up there...

Re: [Announce] GPXSee viewer for gps track files

I concur, would be sensible.

Your fixes work great - I particularly value the ability to use opentopo maps as most of my .gpx trails are in the "wilderness" rather than cities.

Thank you, good...

As best I can see, there is no shift to the track. Unless I misunderstand you.
