Re: Nokia N9 vs Galaxy S2
But why? It isn't as if there is a shortage of Android phones to choose from.
In addition, Android probably wouldn't run nearly as well on the N9 as the native OS does. You will lose the cool...

Re: Handtec sourced N9 crashes thread
A company I worked for once had a gate array chip go obsolete. Didn't buy any "last stock" as they thought the product was dead. Of course they subsequently got a big order.
Rather than do a...

Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
I agree that this seems unlikely.
And I think this is where Nokia went wrong. They kept changing their strategy. Putting the polish on Maemo, getting to step 5 of 5, and adding in Qt as a...

Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
Well, he's not wrong, in the sense that Nokia has hitched their wagon WP. If WP fails, then Nokia does too. So of course Nokia wants it to succeed. Success will mean that other hardware makers...

I don't do well with "word salad". Makes my brain hurt. So sue me.
Was Digital "poorly organized"? Wang? At one time both of those companies were at the top of the heap in their field. ...

I don't have the faintest idea what you are trying to say. It sounds as if you think that sucessful companies will always be sucessful. History is littered with counter-examples, particularly in IT....

Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
Tiny companies? 120,000 employees is not tiny. You have never heard of them, but that is because they failed. They were both well-known "blue chip" companies at the time. They didn't see the PC...

Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
Indeed. You guys might want to look up Unisys. The joining of Sperry Univac and Buroughs to create a computer company bigger than IBM. For about a week. From 120K employees on the day of the...

Re: Thinking of buying an N900
I've got the SDK installed in a chroot on mine, and have actually used it to build some Linux apps. Try that on an iPhone.
My theory is that if it has gcc and make, then it is a computer :D

Try putting everything back to default settings in swappolube and retest your USB writing speed. Some of the settings, such as laptop_mode and the dirty flags, do have an effect on how I/O is...

After doing the ldconfig thing, version 0.9-1 starts, but it does not initialize the GPS. The GPS icon never appears in the status bar. So it never gets any location information.
When I run it...

ZDA has the complete date + time in one message, GGA and GLL have only time of day.
On the mag variation, the NIST issues an updated set of model coefficients every five years. Perhaps the N900...

Re: Has anyone else "rediscovered" their n900?
I've been using Linux on my desktop machines since the mid 90's so was quite familiar with it. For a while I ran in ISP using Linux servers. I sort of bypassed the whole Windows thing, having gone...

Sounds like you might have some duplicate repositories set up. From the command line, the repository lists are in /etc/apt. The main file is sources.list, which on my device is empty. Other lists...

I think his problem is not with the N900 itself but with the policies of Nokia service. I can understand why he'd be annoyed with Nokia, although companies often have policies like that to try to...

I agree. How many phones can run Openoffice? Firefox? How many can run desktop Java apps? With the N900 you have almost everything that desktop Debian and Ubuntu have. How many phones can say...
