I did use my N900 as a laptop replacement. Back then there was nothing it could not do with it's little CPU. Back then, the flash plugin was totally up to date so all online content was available....

I never had any problem running desktop Linux apps on my N900 using X display back. However, it never worked the other way around. Just like you said, the X11 forwarding doesn't do the trick...

You can't "fix it". If your ISP is blocking that SMTP server, then you either change your ISP, or change to a trusted SMTP server that is not blocked.

Also know what ISP you are using. Many only allow SMTP traffic from their own or otherwise trusted servers so as not to be come a spam relay.

I had one of these with the 3G radio in it. Hacked it to run on T-Mobile USA. Got some limited telephony working on it (SMS, etc).

But really it was not practical and I ended up going back...
