Not sure if downloaded TV files are still a problem but I've had success with --modes=flashlow1 option in get_iplayer. Always got a file that worked (at least with mplayer/SiB).

Thanks Ukki, works a treat when I disable SSL. Not sure what my SSL problem is though. I thought I'd installed the customised libsoup (also with no ill effects elsewhere). I'll play around with it...
