I just committed a change to support multithreading in the ALSA backend for HFP for Linux. When the sound card is opened, and threaded access is configured, it will create a thread just for reading...

This is some interesting information!

I doubt the issue with multimediad is related to the alsa-lib problem that seems to be wreaking havoc with hfpd.
