Did you enter your settings manually or allow the N900 to autoconfigure the gmail account for you? Mine is working fine with autoconfig - only had to enter my username and password.

Good news: I have my N900, and the cheap eBay batteries work. They are, as expected, worth exactly as much as I paid for them. :D

There is a "handshake" of sorts going on. USB cables have four conductors: a power pair (5v/gnd) and a signal pair (D+/D-).

Shorting the signal wires is the (standard?) way to signal the presence...
