Try downloading h2test and testing the card inside and outside of the N900. When I had a problem like this it was the card not the handset.

Its running the latest firmware and the voltage look like its O.K. from using BatteryGraph.
I'll give Vodafone a call in the morning and get them to send a new SIM out.

Thank I never knew maemo freak was a site I'm going to go and take a look, but if its rubbish. I won't be going back.
