All N900's should be absolutely identical (apart from individual wear and tear after months of usage - thus not relevant for a new device) and thus all N900's should be able to run exactly the same...

Actually my tentacles are strong and skillful enough to carry and handle it. I get's a bit annoying carrying it (even with my tentacles), so I usually keep it in my pants pocket.

Did you remember to copy your contacts to your SIM card in your old phone before putting it in your N900?
I just did the same yesterday and it worked fine for me.
