You can use Dbus and a simple script to achive that funcionality. Everytime you connect and disconnect to wifi a specific signal is send the part im not sure about is comunication with telepathy to...

Water with no minerals has an extremly high electrical resistence and will cause no corrosion, it will just evaporate leaving no trace.

Btw corrosion does not only happen while the phone is wet,...

For someone who is not very tech savy I recomend the following:

1. Remove battery and do not re-insert it until the end of the process, "testing it" in between will problably damage it.
