They are removing the XMPP federation server to server.

You will only be able to talk to Google users. It's still XMPP though ( kopete, pidgin... you can still use them)

I installed gthumb2 on my N900 and had to reflash it: battery drained REALLY FAST.

I use it just as a tablet and normally it can go for days but with gthumb2 it barely made through a single day...

No, it doesn't have gpg integrated.

The best you can hope for is to install gpg and decrypt the emails manually.

I thought the proximity sensor was always on whether we use it or not. Ain't it suppose to send a dbus signal (or something alike) when it's switched on?

No. The pin is associated to the device: you get another bb, you get a new pin.
