No you don't need to flash the eMMC, it you're at the flasher dos box and it says "no suitable device found. Waiting" it means it hasn't detected your N900 connected to your PC. It could be due to...

Hiya peeps, just to let you know, that this has just happened to my N900, the entire charging connector has come away with the mains charger, I now have no way of charging the phone. Going to take it...
