The Open Pandora uses the omap 3530 which is the exact same hardware as the N900, but the CPU is just clocked at a higher rate, (but we can OC too) so yeah, it would be compiled for the A8.

Have you tried changing the battery with a new one? Perhaps should open up the device and look for inner physical damage (corroded ribbons/circuits).
Then I'd call it safe to say your N900 is dead.
