You must not launch in sudo mode. Have you enabled the relevant settings in XBMC as shown on the top post? Maybe I forgot to mention that the port is not the one shown in XBMC settings. ...

I think there is a bug with the python bindings for qt. You can fix the error by editing file:
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/PyQt4/uic/__init__.py

Find line 158, it should read:...
