For posterity, the relevant file is:

/usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/images/meegotouch-lockscreen/meegotouch-lockscreen-top.png

It needs to be replaced and not just removed. A 120x120...

I don't think the lockscreen is connected with hildon-deskop. At least it hasn't changed the lockscreen behaviour for me. For a portrait lockscreen look at the enhanced lockscreen package, or...

This was the same in my case. I suspect because I use the theme-customiser package.

For reference, they were in:

/usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini...

I have cssu and portrait desktop installed and the onscreen keyboard works for me - both portrait and landscape, which suggests that they can play nicely together.

The command linked to uses sudo to get root permissions. This requires the users password, which is what it is asking for (and for sudo to be setup in the right way). You may not have sudo set up...
