Have the same problem with the Nokia N900 headphones. With other headphones it works.

A workaround for this problem is to put an extension cable between your headphones and the N900.

You can put the tilde anywhere on your keyboard.

1. Start VLC on your computer and check if it is running.

netstat -platn

Netstat should display that your VLC is listening to port 1234.

It seems that you have a problem with the firewall and not VNC.

You can define a firewall rule for that on your PC.

Another option is to tunnel VNC port 5900 through ssh.
