Both the things you had asked me works fine. Mute buttons works correctly. Holding the colume keys increases/decreases it for as long as I hold the button. Thanks again.

I have not tried the X forwarding stuff, but what you are asking can be done by vnc...
In Ubuntu System--Preference---Remote Desktop---Check "Allow other users to view your desktop" & "Allow other...

You can stream the music/videos in your ubuntu machine to phone via uPNP. Rhythmbox has a uPNP Plugin..

If you have not installed CSSU, you have still not strated to "really use" your phone :) There is a long CSSU thread here which should solve all your problems if at all you hit one.
