I don't know if this will also work on the N8, anyway this is what I did, after I registered on my N9 (SIM inserted) i got an sms code in my case 725 and finish with the registration process there,...

There's still a small bug on the conversations, if I want to remove any message, I long press the message and hit "Remove message" nothing happen, the message still there

Totally agree eMMC doesn't have to be touched, first try just flashing rootFS if the problem still there then you have to flash eMMC but I doubt you have to
