Re: Turn by turn directions on the N900?

So, another step down from the N8x0 then? Android looks more appealing all the time (coPilot is only £26)

Re: Is it possible to enjoy the n900 web experience with a pay-as-you-go sim in the U

Give three a go on PAYG. That's what I did about 3 years ago, figuring worst case I lose £10. I'm still with them, paying about £6-7 per month

Re: Is it possible to enjoy the n900 web experience with a pay-as-you-go sim in the U

Skype is "Voice Over Internet Protocol" protocol, therefore IS VOIP. It also closed, proprietary and cr4p. VOIP doesn't define the protocol used. Cisco use their own closed protocol, which isn't...

Apart from three, where I regularly stream from last.fm, and have made MANY phone calls over both Skype (which they actually encourage you to do) and SIP.

Re: Is it possible to enjoy the n900 web experience with a pay-as-you-go sim in the U

Or just walk into a three store, say "hello Mr Sales Person, here is a £10 note, please can I have a shiny new SIM Card, complete with £10 topup". Worked for me. As anonymous as you are going to...

Re: Now it's official: Maemo 5 and the N900 launch!

Unforuntately, explaining it doesn't make it any more palatable. My n800 was under £300 - it's going to be hard to convince the missus to let me drop £500 (500 E + 15% VAT). It needs to be closer...

Re: Is it possible to enjoy the n900 web experience with a pay-as-you-go sim in the U

REMFwhoopitydo, I always pay cash for the topups, and for the original SIM. I've never given three my details at all, or any oportunity to get them from credit cards etc... I tend to get the topups...

Re: Is it possible to enjoy the n900 web experience with a pay-as-you-go sim in the U

REMFwhoopitydo, you top up as a regular PAYG phone, then use their mobile web site to active the 30 day internet add-on.

They also offer a "mobile broadband" add-on for £10 for 30 days/1GB, but...

Re: Is it possible to enjoy the n900 web experience with a pay-as-you-go sim in the U

I use the £5 deal Jaffa mentioned, works great. I actually use it to tether my n800 to my phone. I make hardly any phone calls, and few texts, so it costs me about £6 per month. Oh, and three now...

Re: Now it's official: Maemo 5 and the N900 launch!

"removable battery" as an innovative design? Apple's limitations becoming everyone elses features :)

Re: Perfect time to release Maemo 5.

I'm getting fed up waiting for Nokia to even _announce_ something new, never mind release it. my n800 is getting rather long in the tooth, and my fingers are getting twitchy for a new toy, so I'm...

Re: "Fast Food Apple Pies and Why Netbooks Suck"

I recently bought an Acer 9" for under £200. It's more powerful than my current home desktop PC, more portable, has a usable keyboard, and connects to my 19" LCD monitor to give me a good resolution...

Re: Freemantle Race to Idle and Phone calls

My Windows Mobile devices used to take it one step further and sometimes crash when you tried to answer a call. Assuming that you hadn't flattened the battery playing pocket-doom or reading e-books....

Re: N900 specs revealed

Personally, I want the keyboard. Having used an n810 for a few weeks, I got a lot of use from being able to use pidgin to chat to friends, which I can't do on the n800 (can't see anything under the...

Re: N900 specs revealed

Wonder how well that would work when it's stashed in my car mount as I drive down the motorway at 70mph trying to pick a new song, set satnav, etc... ?

Re: Losing the best-res title

Yes. I can't walk down the street holding using a netbook, and a phone is (generally) too small to be very useful when browsing the news while lying on the sofa. 4-5" can be the best of both worlds.

Re: Vodafone buys Wayfinder

Looks like it's all gone through now - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/01/28/vodafone_wayfinder/ How likely are Vodafone to want to support a non-phone platform?

Re: "Fixed in Fremantle"

if I log a software bug on my n800, and you tell me that it will be fixed if I buy an n900, then you ARE NOT fixing that bug for ME.

All this talk about the community back-porting fremantle doesn't help with the fact that nokia/maemo are closing bugs raised against chinook/diablo as fixed, when they are only fixed in firmware that...

Re: "Fixed in Fremantle"

Personally, I find being told that something is fixed but I can't have it more annoying than being told nothing. Ignorance is bliss, after all.

I've not had any major speed complaints about the...

Not really. TBH, I'm just fed up with receiving emails saying somethings fixed, getting all excited, then finding out I'm going to have to wait another 4+ months to see the fix. If we get to see...

Angry "Fixed in Fremantle"

Is anyone else getting as annoyed by the constant "fixed in fremantle" comments on bugzilla? OK, it's great that things are getting fixed, but that doesn't help us now, does it?

We don't have a...
