I pushed a new build that fixes it (0.74-0maemo4) -- without workaround. This should also slightly increase the fullscreen speed on the N900.
This build also has the work I did long ago on...

Think I might have even a better suggestion than Pushwall's.
Okay.
Press the hardware "Home" key on the tablet during your game.
This should pull up a Dosbox tab thingie on the left side.

There are no permissions in VFAT.
Your last bet is doing
mount -o remout,ro /media/mmc2
but this WILL disable writing for any program and not just GVM. Also, it will probably make GVM crash...

One other quick mention.
Once you remove the "noexec" part, you might need to turn off your tablet and start it back up again. It happened in my case.
Anyway, it's back to working great for me...

As for the symbolic link idea, I think you're forgetting about the "removing the noexec mount option" part.
Detail: GVM mmaps the gvm.store with PROT_EXEC and as such needs Maemo's default noexec...

I downloaded it from Skyscape and Hotsynched it to a normal gvm.store. I'm also using Resco Explorer.

I couldn't get any of the already available OpenTTD ports to work on my N810, so I decided I would start yet another one, this time from a pristine OpenTTD-0.7.0.
And either 0.7.0 has some fixes...
