Be careful!
I managed to muck up the menu config and the n900 went into a continuous reboot loop.
I was only able to fix it by getting a suitable remote-shell command through the 1-second window...

True, often it's just faster to use the command line.

That being said, it would help if the instructions were gathered and sorted with comments into a single topic (and perhaps on the wiki too)....
