Migrating to Community-driven Infrastructure - Step 1: Inventory

Alright, I think we all are/were more or less aware that sooner or later the day will come at which we need to migrate to a community-driven platform. Most probably the reason for this is that we are...

Re: It's official: maemo.org to be orphaned

I don't have much to say as I'm mostly observing maemo.org these days:

0) Be patient for Quim and Kate to work out what they can do. It isn't of their choice things are going south, it's a company...

Re: It's official: maemo.org to be orphaned

There is place for some clarification. Decisions made last Thursday were Nokia highest management decisions. The final impacts and the schedule of these impacts are simply just not known yet.

Re: It's official: maemo.org to be orphaned

Please excuse qgil for not coming with concrete official Nokia statements. There is none at this point. I could simply stay silent and wait for an official sentence whenever there is one. Instead, I...

It's official: maemo.org to be orphaned

Following last week's announcements, it looks like **** just got real (from the 'Let's talk Nokia Stock!' thread):

There goes as well the budget for funding maemo.org and paying the salaries of...

Gary was a passionate and endlessly enthusiastic member of the community. His words of encouragement got me to work on and complete several projects.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gary on a couple...

Gary Birkett (aka lcuk) RIP

Hi all,

It is with sadness that I have to report that I heard from Gary's wife today that he died last night. I don't have much by way of details.

Gary was important to me in my connections to...

Re: The End is Coming: What do we do next?

Going back on topic, I second approach of legal entity. And I think legal entity != "only one with rights to distribute nokia repos". If Nokia would like to allow "anyone" to redistribute - which I...

Re: The End is Coming: What do we do next?

Why?

Seriously, why do you think the Council needs to be "authorised" to do that?

I wrote on maemo-community (http://lists.maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-community/2011-August/004882.html):

But as I've said before, I think a discussion about community continuation of...

Re: The End is Coming: What do we do next?

I don't think so. It's worth remembering that there were other iterations that were even more mismanaged and abandoned (like the Zaurus line mentioned earlier). There is a market for such a thing,...

Re: The End is Coming: What do we do next?

Please don't get me wrong: I'm not opposed to a return to ITT at all. But that's up to Reggie. IMO the mechanics are simple: after Nokia elects not to fund *.maemo.org further, Reggie can uncouple...

Unhappy The End is Coming: What do we do next?

Here's my opinion about the future of Maemo and maemo.org. I am currently an (un-elected, volunteer) maemo community council member, and an avid member of this community for about 4 years.
