If formatting ur memory card solved it then ur memory card was the culprit.

If the same happens in future then
root
umount /media/mmc1
fsck.vfat -a /dev/mmcblk1p1
mount /dev/mmcblk1p1...

connect your phone to pc in mass storage mode and goto properties of phone or memory card (in whom the files are) and select tools and checkdisk it.It seems to be case to memory becomming corrupt due...
