Re: What % of used rootfs with a brand new N900?

Because rootfs isn't on the 32GB SSD, it's on a separate 256MB OneNAND chip, hardwired onto the processor. It's only 256MB because this was the largest that TI were offering at the time (even now...

Re: I no longer have the History feature in the N900 browser...

I had that problem on my N800. I think what ended up fixing it was when I deleted the profile directory for a different reason. You could give it a try--but you'll lose all your saved settings in...

I'm using one of these, the #75. It seems that the manufacturing tolerance for these...

Re: Anyone using Nokia's carrying case CP-353 for the N900?

It kind of sucks. It's pretty tight and hard to get off. Try to answer a call in time when you have to first take the whole thing out of your tight jean pocket and then rip the case off (it's not...

Re: Why is basic offline geotagging not possible with the N900?

Err both the iPhone 3Gs, N900, and I think the Droid and Nexus One have a dedicated GPS chip inside. AGPS just helps you lock onto a signal quicker.

The only reason why it doesn't work very well...

Re: Why is basic offline geotagging not possible with the N900?

For some, country and city are not acceptable substitutions for reasonably accurate and precise longitude and latitude. And manual editing is not a substitute automatic insertion of these values.

Re: Why is basic offline geotagging not possible with the N900?

A-GPS is GPS, assisted. A-GPS should works just as any GPS except it locks way faster if online. There's a bug in the old(?) firmware that made the app give up if no lock in 30 seconds - and a...

Re: Why is basic offline geotagging not possible with the N900?

Funny, I thought it was?

"Why is basic offline geotagging not possible with the N900?" is the title, and if I can define a basic offline geotag to an image.. Well. I'm tired anyhow.

It's true,...

Re: Why is basic offline geotagging not possible with the N900?

Uhm... "You need an internet connection to be able to add geotag information to your files." is not correct. I can edit geotags just fine, even create new ones like "Dubai". N900 has the option of...

Re: Why is basic offline geotagging not possible with the N900?

I think it does, if it already running. Mine doesn't really lock without network. I'm 99% sure it instantly tags if a lock is already established, say, via maps.

Re: Do most armel.deb packages run in the N900 unmodified?

If you feel confident that you could recover your device from any problem (or want to learn), just try them and see. There are also a LOT of armel compiled .debs at debian.org. I've found that many...

Re: Do most armel.deb packages run in the N900 unmodified?

As superuser to install directly from the .deb.

Re: Do most armel.deb packages run in the N900 unmodified?

I was planning to get the SDK going just to install...

Re: Do most armel.deb packages run in the N900 unmodified?

They will install but may cause harm to the device (example: fill up rootfs which will result in a brick)

Re: Will good ol' ed be available?

Right, although (since Maemo is derived from Debian) it should be easier to start from the Debian package (http://packages.debian.org/lenny/ed).

However, ed does seem to be available...

Re: Will good ol' ed be available?

Feel free to file an enhancement request against Busybox in bugs.maemo.org to enable CONFIG_ED by default. No idea though if Nokians will agree as there's nano and vi available already.
It's all...
