This is not a clean the wrong way to disable it; you should rather rename /etc/rc2.d/S99metalayer-crawler0:
mv /etc/rc2.d/S99metalayer-crawler0 /etc/rc2.d/K99metalayer-crawler0

This is a bit geeky, but I've done two things to accomplish this:

1. I created a script that loaded the modules on boot:

insmod /modulelocation/module1.ko
insmod /modulelocation/module2.ko...
