The status menu won't rotate to portrait if the window behind it doesn't support portrait mode, open something that has portrait mode support like the phone app (assuming it's not locked to landscape)

In Calendar Settings, Edit Calendar, delete the Birthdays smart calendar then click done. This does not delete any contact data, just the generated calendar. Go back into Edit, and re-add the smart...
