A big difference for me is the keyboard shortcuts and other things that work as leftovers from the desktop on our NIT's, which do not exist on android because it's made from scratch.

Sadly, no as no OS can operate without hardware drivers and those are what phone manufacturers are notoriously bad in releasing as opensource....

Hard to say, without actually opening the case and trying to clean :) If that doesn't help, replacing maybe necessary, but before doing so, check with multimeter if button is really to be blamed.
