You are looking for "xrdp". I have it installed on a Ubuntu 8.04 system, it seems to work well enough, but I have never used it with pyRdesktop to any degree. Might be worth a shot though.

@pomokey: Remove /home/user/.tear and it will run.

My /home/user/.osso/menus/applications.menu is empty, but the former file has the default entries as you listed and the directory still has all my .desktop files for all my installed applications.
