It is GPS coordinate tracking, optional, switches on/off in the settings. The two leftmost are optional (face tracking and GPS tracking), you may see screenshots somewhere with only three icons...

Yes, similar. You get a thin notification at the top for a couple of seconds, then you either click it or find it later on the notifications homescreen.

There's a small transparent notification box that will popup in the lower part of the screen. Never used S^3, but by the screens, it seems similar.

I've spent 600 Euro...I NEED Meego or Maemo 6....it's a MUST, for consumers that spent much much money on a device like N900...and a few months later read news like this...
