as person who built these packages i can confirm that chromium is fully optified and libxss creates 3 symlinks in /usr/lib ( libraries are in /opt )
only reason to have less space on rootfs would...

Well, this bug (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5663) says the dark band will be fixed, but it doesn't say anything about the overall image quality.
I'd also like to know if there's any...
