I had this "high pitch" issue a few times. The high pitch does not seem to be indication of vibration motor permanent damage. The motor just get stuck (maybe because of dust). Each time I solved it...

I just got myself an Neos BluSlim BTK-1 Bluetooth keyboard and managed to pair it with my N900 and followed the instructions as described in http://wiki.maemo.org/Fremantle_Bluetooth_Keyboard_Layout....
