Pretty sure Mobile Hotspot or Joikuspot is what you are really after. Install one of these and it creates a wifi access point using your phones internet.

Once you uninstalled your Ovi, reboot then connect your n900 to your comp via USB and choose Suite mode on the n900, do you see the n900 recognised as a USB modem ?
