Look at the center of the area where the stand is allocated when closed. There's a tiny rectangle. That is the magnet.

Oh, thanks for the suggestion. i hv already cleaned the white spot of the sensor in the past, it didnt work. Can you post an image of d magnet? so i can look at the exact place where to put one...

The tiny magnet that keeps in place the back stand, you lost it most likely: it is needed to allow sensing the shutter.. Or, the white spot on the inner side of the shutter window is dirty. Or it is...

I'm sure there are tons more who have, use and or covet their n900 but didn't chime in.

I love my n900 btw, best phone ever. I got 2 years after it come out due to financial issues in my family but it was worthed :D

You don't even need an external software tool to download the .deb installable and keep a local copy on a USB stick for after the apocalypse :)

I also have no problems with the USB port. The first thing I did was file the retaining hooks on all the microUSB connectors, so that the USB connector goes in and out without any effort. And charge...
