I don't know what is causing Seg fault in C++, but that python error is probably same as I had in pyKake and was at least in DropN900 too. That problem was fixed, when the QApplication was imported...

Pygame (http://www.pygame.org/wiki/about) is a set of modules, built on Python, that you can use to build games. It's free and it's pretty easy, it's a great alternative to make apps for the N900.
