What is step 2? I already did that a long time ago and don't want to clobber my existing setup there.
Scratchbox is the development environment for the N900 installed on your PC.

Lol, I feel your pain. I don't know how to make a .deb either. Seems like a lot of work for something that should be more straightforward. Then again, maybe all the people that write the guides...
