For Fedora and Ubuntu, yes.
For Tizen, whole firmware upgrade.
"jail break" is not a right word because it is as easy as power-kernel and CSSU for N900. See Cyanogen...

I understand completely. I just figured out the N9 cannot have attachments to e-mails longer than 5 MB. The solution was opening xterm, modding a obscure conf file in vi and voilą. Some years ago...

I have had my SGS2 for a couple of week and may N900 has sat in the corner looking sad ever since. The SGS" is light years ahead of the Nokia which from day one was simply let doen by lack of support...

It is not you, nor is it just a bunch of crap installed. Mine has done this MANY times. Just on basic PR1.3 and CSSU. The N900 is just not designed to be a [reliable] phone. It's a tiny computer :D
