There is a quick way to boot the device to maintanance mode and telnet into it. This would make sure if the problem is indeed the screen or if the device does not boot at all.

I got Firefox (fennec 11.0) up and running with adblock. The good news is adblock does its job. Firefox's tabs and menu system is similar to Dolphin HD on Android, so I am familiar with the interface...

Type 'devel-su'. Password is 'rootme' if I remember correctly. Though it still doesn't have full privileges to everywhere, you can at least kill the ads from web pages with special hosts-file etc.
