You noted earlier, that the phone is locked to your carrier, didn't you have an firmware image from them to flash???
Did you just use a global firmware version?

First make a backup with in-build Backup application of your contacts, conversations, application list and all either to an external microSD card or to MyDocs. You could then reflash the firmware...

Try to force an install
Download rootsh here http://skeiron.org/repo/repository.maemo.org/extras/pool/fremantle/free/r/rootsh/rootsh_1.5_armel.deb
Save it to some place in your MyDocs (N900) data...
