You might try to get debugging info from within your device in X-Terminal. But for some of the commands to work you need rootsh from extras repository installed.

you can format the n900 or memory card memory right on the phone. it helped me before. In the file manager, tap and hold "nokia n900" til you see format n900. tap it and shazaam.
