Re: Rebasing Maemo5 top of the Debian 6.0
el and hf are abi incompatible iirc. closed source components would therefore pose some issues. wheezy should support multiarch but not sure how it would be in terms of data interchange between the...

Re: Rebasing Maemo5 top of the Debian 6.0
maybe I'm missing something, but why recompile? starting with wheezy debian offers an armhf port (thumb-enabled), which runs just fine on n900... the obvious problems are hardware support in the...

Re: Time for N900s Anonymous?
Redundant devices? Tell that to my credit card input finger! :p
The truth is that I found some N900 deals I couldn't pass up. I've seen prices falling steadily in eBay in the past couple months....

Re: Time for N900s Anonymous?
Quick reply...
N900 is not evil. If it has resorted to possessing you, then it's possible that it is saving its brethren from a painful fate somewhere else by having them bought by you.
Do not...

Re: Time for N900s Anonymous?
I've gone from wanting to sell one of my 2 N900 to acquiring 2 more. It's like the N900 has cast an evil spell upon me. My credit card input finger is possessed, and the morning after I always feel...

Re: Time for N900s Anonymous?
In the sunlight, take your N900
Put it between the Sun and you
Slide the keyboard out
Look, and don't be afraid
Even the sun couldn't get through the N900
As a living god, it can create night in...

Re: Rebasing Maemo5 top of the Debian 6.0
I was able to boot 3.8 kernel on Maemo. But it has lot of problems: mce, dsme and HAL not working (all daemons run at 100% CPU). seems that in 3.x kernel was upstreamed incompatible HSI/SSI modules...

Re: Rebasing Maemo5 top of the Debian 6.0
Thanks. I was just curious, as I like Maemo5 and it is possible to chroot Debian on android phone it might be interesting to run Maemo5 on top of that. Probably too complicated but fun to try!

Re: Rebasing Maemo5 top of the Debian 6.0
Actually this rebasing is almost 'porting debian to N900' (using maemo kernel). When this is done, it makes Maemo5 more worth for porting to another devices. It makes porting just slight easier. E.g....

Re: Rebasing Maemo5 top of the Debian 6.0
Kudos for approaching this task :) If I had a second N900 I would be trying this right now :)
Up-to-date libraries (inc. libc)
Up-to-date stable OS
Up-to-date stable packages with a debian package...

Re: Rebasing Maemo5 top of the Debian 6.0
@marmistrz: I suggested earlier: first to install it on eMMC or SD card and then start thinking how to fit it into nand. I think best way would be to move /usr on eMMC, but this has one big problem...

Re: Rebasing Maemo5 top of the Debian 6.0
maybe, if we're rebasing the whole system on top of debian, we should get rid of the whole rootfs and optify mess (some startup repartiton script or a flashing image?)
