Importing Files
trying to import my bookmarks from Firefox as an .html file into the N810. I can not locate the .html file once copied into the n810 using the cable. Any suggestions as to how to locate the file ?

Re: Importing Files
Well, if you used the USB cable, then they should have ended up on one of the removable memory cards.
|
Re: Importing Files
it could well be in /home/user/Mydocs
|
Re: Importing Files
The USB cable doesn't mount the rootfs.

Re: Importing Files
how do you get to an explorer to search the drives for files ? I cant seem to get there from the file explorer.

Re: Importing Files
You might try using a better file manager - I find the builtin FM to be most limited in it's functionality. I've been using emelFM2 It will let you see pretty much everything :D

Re: Importing Files
thanks, found the alternative file manager, but dont know how to install. also, found my file of bookmarks, but the bookmark application crashes when I try to import the file over to a folder in the application. Any suggestions ?
I suppose I could just leave it in the documents folder and use it from there, but that would not be the way it is intended. |

Next, I was just able to import my FireFox bookmarks (I needed to do this anyway). I went into FF and selected Organize Bookmarks, then File->Export ->a file named bookmarks.html I then transferred this over to my memory card using the USB cable. I opened the web browser -> Manage Bookmarks ->Menu -> Tools -> Import -> navigate to the bookmarks.html file that FireFox had generated. Viola, my FireFox bookmarks show up in a folder called "Imported Bookmarks". As a side note, I didn't actually want all of my FF bookmarks, so before I transferred the html file to the card, I edited it in text editor to delete the bookmarks I didn't want. Hope this helps :) |
Re: Importing Files
neither worked for me. I will keep trying. Application Manager did not open up and the import tool keeps crashing the bookmarks. ??? If things dont start to get easier I am not sure I am going to keep the n810 ?

http://wardenclyffetower.com/MaemoFi...nook-1.2.0.deb and nothing happened at all? Maybe trying rebooting then? As for why your bookmarks.html file keeps crashing when you try to import - I guess I don't know. It worked great for me when I followed the steps I mentioned before. Did you do something different? |
Re: Importing Files
can anyone with experience using the emelfm2 filemanager tell me how i might use it to ... delete a sound from the skype directory and replace it with a sound file of my own that ive already renamed to the file that i want deleted???
|
Re: Importing Files
@ Munky261-
1) you need to find the folder that has the sound file that you want to replace in it. To do this use the little green arrows on the top tool bar to move around the file system. You can also double tap on a folder to show contents. Double tapping on a file will open that file. 2) Make sure you have the 2 panes opened. If you only see one pane (ie: one file listing) then tap on the icon on the left of the top toolbar (looks kinda like a book with red, green & blue lines). 3)Navigate to the folder where the new sound file is stored using the methods in #1 4)Drag and drop from one pane to the other. In general to delete a file: highlight the file and click on the trash can There's also a help file - to access it tap on the ->| icon in the lower right corner. :) |

Re: Importing Files
problem , when i go to copy the new file over to the skype directory is says permission denied , how can i get around this?
|
Re: Importing Files
Sounds like it's a permissions issue. You might be able to get around it by changing the permissions to the directory you are trying to copy the file to by highlighting the directory and then using the menu button next to the d-pad and selecting Actions -> Change permissions. Make sure Write is checked for owner. I would also change the permissions back after the file is copied - but that's just me (I'm cautious).
If this doesn't work then you could try to become root: sudo gainroot from xterm. Then: cd /path/to/dir of file to be copied then cp filename /path/to/destination Root ignores permissions so that should work. |
Re: Importing Files
THANK YOU *bows* lol you have made a very anal retentive tablet user a very happy man. lol if youre ever around indianapolis , i owe you a beer. ended up having to use the xterm method , when i brought up the permissions screen in the filemanager it was all kind of distorted , you couldnt click or select anything. now that i have a bit more insight as to how to copy files to where i want and such theres a few other things i want to try to change ... startup sound , and the stupid nokia hands logo *blehhh* if you have any idea in what directories these might be located ill owe you another beer lol
