Termination of my contract
I'm considering terminating my contract for my n900 as it is just shite value for money.
I bought the contract of mobilephonesdirect (hehe do any of you remember that preorder saga when we had no idea when it was arriving), and it is with t-mobile £25 a month 18 months, 200 mins 200 texts, and 1gb data I don't get very good t-mobile signal in my area either. How do i go about cancelling the contract, do i talk to MPD or t-mobile? which company am i actually bound to with my contract? What are the termination charges ? |

Re: Termination of my contract
Talk to T-mobile. And the charge will be massive. £300-400.

Re: Termination of my contract
Do you have the original paperwork you should have received from MPD or TMobile about your contract? Have you read it when signing the contract? Have you tried googling for MPD and/or TMobile customer support phone numbers?

Re: Termination of my contract
That's kind of the entire point of a contract. You will have to find some way in which they have breached their agreement with you in order not to pay.
"Not a very good signal" might be worth a chance, especially if you haven't had it long? |
Re: Termination of my contract
I dont think bad signal is a good argument as now days all operators have a coverage map on there websites and fob you off with a "you should have checked before you bought"
Your best bet would be to keep the phone for now and then maybe purchase some insurance in a few months when the n900 is discontinued. smash it and then they will have to replace for a similar phone... A question i asked in a another thread is where would one stand if nokia do not have flash 10.1 on the n900, would this void the contract as you whent for a flash phone that no longer supports flash? |

but don't t-mobile only care about the sim services notabout the phone. maybe i have to go to MPD to argue about the phone, but can they terminate my contract .... |

Only other option would be to sell the N900 and put the cash towards the termination fee. |
Re: Termination of my contract
As far as i am aware you have to pay the remainder of your contract to terminate. I.e say you got 12 month left then it would be 12 x £25. When you take a contract out in uk i believe you paying for the sim service and not the phone. Phone is just a deal sweetner. Also T-Mobile can not be hold responsible if Nokia decides not to bring newest flash to their device.
I am not sure if T-Mobile is like o2 where after 9 month you can lower your tariff to the next lowest. |

Your contract is a legally binding agreement between you and T-Mobile. Out of the top of my head, here is what you could do to get out of it: 1) Read your contract and see what are the conditions for cancelling it without fees. There'll probably be nothing. 2) Die. If you die, you might be able to have your contract canceled without fees. That's not guaranteed to work though - I remember having read a story in the paper about a guy who couldn't get his wife's mobile phone operator to cancel his wife's contract after she was killed in an accident. 3) Go bankrupt. That has to be done carefully if you don't want T-Mobile to still be able to get their money back. There are a few side effects with going bankrupt too. 4) If T-Mobile decides to change the terms of your contract, they will be legally obliged to notify you in advance of the changes taking effect and to offer you to cancel the contract at no charge. Chances of that to happen are of course close to nil. 5) Sell your N900. You should be able to get enough out of it to pay for the termination fees. You'll then be back to square one and be able to go pay-as-you-go since you don't seem to like being tied to an operator. Of course, pay-as-you-go means that you'll have to pay the full price for your phone but that's what you want, right? 6) Find a friend or family member willing to take over the contract. Then see if T-Mobile is willing to transfer your contract to them. 7) See with T-Mobile if you can change to another plan. If they agree, they'll probably only let you switch to a more expensive plan (but maybe that'll at least fit your needs better) |

all i got was the sim card in a small wallet sized pack with just some setup information, and a first invoice..... |
Re: Termination of my contract
you could try and go to carphone warehouse and see if they wana doa buy out. Then you could sell your n900 for x amount and make up the amount you owe. My girlfriend did that, she got 90 squid!
Id still like to know what could be done regarding the lfash issue, I believe Sony have just been nailed for removing linux from there machines, yes it's not the same but still I wana know ;) |
Re: Termination of my contract

Also I take massive offence to your casual racism / questions with regards to my outrageous slang ;) She got £90 for a buy out, it wasn't on the n900 it was another phone. but 90 + the resale of the n900 and ou could pay the contract off and start another one. |
Re: Termination of my contract
I have only ever heard about one successful way out of a contract.
If you move and your new residence is in a location where the provider has zero service, they may let you out of your contract for free. People I know have done that. But they *actually* moved. |

Re: Termination of my contract
that is really a bad contract for £25/mo, im paying 30 and get way more than that.
id call tmobile and ask if you can change your tariff as you believe the one your on currently to be bad value for money - just a quick look round tmobiles site found this contract which is more than what you get now but the same price as your paying : 600mins 500Texts flexible booster included (could be texts or whatever you choose) unlimited internet Yes £25.00 18 months |
Re: Termination of my contract
nm, my reply was silly
|
Re: Termination of my contract
Contact them to discuss & renegotiate a new tariff for the same price. That sounds a poor one for the monies.
